BONUS MODULE: LESSON FOUR

Troubleshooting and Best Practices

Custom CSS can greatly enhance your site, but small mistakes can cause issues. Here’s how to troubleshoot common problems and keep your CSS clean and safe.

Common Issues & Fixes

Font not showing up?

  • Make sure your font-family name is consistent everywhere.

  • Double-check your font URLs. incorrect or missing links mean your font won’t load.

  • Clear your browser cache or use an incognito window to see changes.

Layout looks off?

  • Undo your most recent CSS edits to find the culprit.

  • Add one CSS section at a time so you can quickly identify problems.

  • Keep your code organized with comments.

Changes not appearing on mobile?

  • Preview your site in Squarespace’s device views and on real devices.

  • Adjust your CSS selectors if they don’t target mobile-specific elements.

When to Get Help

If you can’t fix an issue or want major changes beyond your skill level, consider hiring a web designer (we hear billie grace studio is a great one…) to avoid damaging your site’s functionality or appearance.

Action Step:

Back up your CSS, check your site on desktop and mobile, and simplify your code where possible.
