MODULE FOUR: LESSON THREE

customizing your extras page

Your Extras section is where readers can explore additional content beyond your books — things like trigger warnings, reading orders, and any bonus material you want to offer.

Your template comes preloaded with an Extras folder that lives in your site’s navigation. Inside, you’ll find:

  • A Trigger Warnings page where you can list content warnings for your books.

  • A Reading Order page to help readers navigate your series or interconnected books.

Both of these pages are already built into your site’s structure — all you need to do is update them with your own information.

How Folders Work in Squarespace

In Squarespace, a folder is a way to group multiple pages together under a single menu item in your navigation. Instead of each page showing up individually in your main menu, the folder acts as a “container.” When a visitor hovers over the folder name, the pages inside drop down in a list.

For example, your template includes an Extras folder.

  • The folder itself is what shows up in your main navigation as “Extras.”

  • Inside the folder are the Trigger Warnings and Reading Order pages.

  • When a visitor hovers over “Extras” in your site menu, they’ll see those pages listed in the dropdown.

Things to know about folders:

  • Folders are not clickable pages themselves — they are just organizational tools. If someone clicks on “Extras,” nothing will load; they’ll only see the dropdown.

  • You can drag and drop pages in and out of folders to control where they appear in your navigation.

  • You can rename a folder at any time (for example, “Extras,” “Bonus Content,” or “Resources”).

Why use folders?
Folders keep your navigation clean and organized, especially when you want to group related pages together without overwhelming your menu.

updating your extras folder content

Step 1: Update the Trigger Warnings Page

  • Open the Trigger Warnings page in the Extras folder.

  • Replace the placeholder text with book-specific content warnings.

  • Keep the format consistent (for example, a bulleted list or a short paragraph per book).

  • Make sure to update this page whenever you release a new book.

Step 2: Edit the Reading Order Page

  • Open the Reading Order page in the Extras folder.

  • Replace the placeholder list with the correct order for your series or interconnected books.

  • Use numbers or bullet points for clarity.

  • If you write multiple series, create headings for each one.

Step 3: Organize the Extras Folder

  • Check that both pages are inside the Extras folder in your site navigation.

  • Adjust the order if needed so readers can easily find Trigger Warnings and Reading Order in the dropdown menu.

Step 4: Expand with Optional Add-Ons (Optional)

If you’d like to offer even more to your readers, you can add extra pages to your Extras section. These add-ons are available in your Resources Vault:

  • Coming Soon Page: A space to tease upcoming releases and build anticipation.

  • Bonus Chapters/Epilogues Page: A dedicated page for extra content, which can be public, password-protected, or shared via private links.

I also offer custom Interactive Reading Order Maps: A clickable visual guide for exploring your series and interconnected books. CLICK HERE TO INQUIRE ABOUT THIS ADD ON.

Action Steps

  • Gather any trigger warnings you want to include for each book.

  • Outline the reading order for your series or interconnected books.

  • Consider expanding your Extras section with optional add-ons if you want to offer more.

MODULE FOUR WRAP UP:

Your Core Pages Are Ready to Go!

You did it! By the end of this module, you’ve built out the core pages that give your site depth, personality, and connection points for your readers.

You now have:

  • An About page that introduces you and your author brand

  • A Contact page that makes it easy for readers, bloggers, or event organizers to get in touch

  • An Extras section that provides helpful resources like trigger warnings and reading order guides — plus the potential to expand even further

If you want to grow your Extras section even more, don’t forget to check out the optional add-ons like the Interactive Reading Order Map, Coming Soon page, and Bonus Content pagE all designed to help you engage your readers in fun and meaningful ways. You can find those in the Resource Vault.

Now that your core pages are done, it’s time to start showcasing what your readers came for — your books.

When you’re ready, head to Module Five: Customizing Your Books Page to start building out your catalog and guiding readers to their next favorite story.
