MODULE FIVE: LESSON TWO

Adding & Organizing Your Books

Your Books page is where readers can browse your catalog, learn more about your titles, and click directly to purchase. Depending on your setup, you may use a Books page, a Shop page, or both. This lesson will walk you through how to add your books, arrange them by series or order, and adapt the template structure to fit your catalog.

Note: If you purchased a Shop page and do not want to keep the Books section, simply delete the Books folder and move on to the next module.

Step 1: Understand the Page Structure

Your template uses a folder system to organize books by series. Inside the Books folder, you’ll see up to three Series pages. Each page is pre-formatted to display four book listings.

  • If you have one series, you’ll likely want to simplify things into a single Books page.

  • If you have more than three series, you’ll need to duplicate pages to add more.

  • If you have fewer than three series, you can delete the extra pages so your navigation stays clean.

Step 2: If You Only Have One Series

Simplify the structure so readers don’t have to click through unnecessary pages:

  1. Delete the extra Series pages inside the folder.

    • Hover over the page in the Pages menu, click the gear icon, and select Delete Page.

    • If you accidentally delete a page you meant to keep, Squarespace stores deleted pages for 30 days. Just open the Deleted Pages panel in the Pages menu and restore it.

  2. Drag your remaining Series page out of the folder and into your main navigation.

  3. Rename it (for example, “Books” or the name of your series) so it displays cleanly in your menu.

  4. Double-check your navigation to confirm the folder is gone and only the single page shows.

Step 3: If You Have More Than Three Series

You’ll need to add extra Series pages to the folder:

  1. Open your Books folder in the Pages menu.

  2. Hover over one of the existing Series pages, click the gear icon, and select Duplicate Page.

  3. Rename the new page to match your additional series.

  4. Update the page content with the correct book covers, titles, blurbs, and links.

  5. Repeat as needed until each series has its own dedicated page.

  6. Test your navigation to ensure all Series pages display correctly inside the folder.

Tip: Always duplicate pages or sections instead of rebuilding them — this keeps formatting consistent and saves time.

Step 4: Add Your Books

Each Series page comes pre-loaded with four book listings. To customize:

  • Replace Demo Content: Swap out placeholder images with your covers and update the titles, blurbs, and any other text.

    • HEAD TO THE RESOURCES VAULT TO FIND A CANVA TEMPLATE FOR A BOOK MOCKUP AND PLACE YOUR OWN BOOK COVERS WITHIN FOR A MORE POLISHED LOOK.

  • Duplicate Listings (if needed): If you have more than four books in a series, duplicate a full book section (cover + text + button) to keep the formatting the same.

  • Delete Extra Listings: If you have fewer than four books, delete the unused sections so your page looks clean.

  • Add Retailer Links: Edit the button in each listing to link directly to your purchase page (Amazon, KU, etc.).

Step 5: Organize Your Books

There are several ways to arrange your catalog depending on what you write:

  • By Series: Best for multi-book series to keep the reading order clear.

  • By Standalones: Works well if you write unconnected books; group by genre if you have several.

  • Chronological Order: Arrange from newest to oldest (to spotlight your latest release) or oldest to newest (to guide readers through your backlist).

Use headings or text dividers (like “Book One: Series Name”) to make the structure clear at a glance.

Step 6: Optional Enhancements

You can add more detail to help readers explore your catalog:

  • Trigger Warnings or Reading Order: While your template already includes dedicated pages for these, you may want to repeat the info here so readers don’t miss it.

  • Tropes or Themes: Add short notes like “enemies-to-lovers,” “found family,” or “small-town romance” so readers instantly know if it’s their kind of story.

  • Fun Extras: Consider adding book awards, audiobook links, or preorder banners.

Tips for Better Organization

  • Don’t overload readers with too much text. most visitors are browsing on mobile, so keep blurbs short and scannable.

  • Use duplication to your advantage. Duplicating keeps formatting uniform and saves you from re-creating sections.

  • Update your Books page regularly. each time you release a new title, add it here right away so your catalog always feels current.

Action Steps

  • Review your template’s Books folder to see how many Series pages you need.

  • If you only have one series, delete the extras and move the page into your main navigation.

  • If you have more than three series, duplicate a Series page for each additional series.

  • Replace all placeholder content with your book covers, titles, blurbs, and links.

  • Duplicate or delete book sections to match the number of books in each series.

  • Add purchase links for each book.

  • Organize your catalog by series, standalones, or chronology.

  • Consider adding optional details like tropes, trigger warnings, or preorder notes.
